SUMMARY:Workshop: Pharmacotherapy for Smoking Cessation
DESCRIPTION:Scott Hunter\, MD\, MHS\nWorkshop: Pharmacotherapy for Smoking Cessation \nWebinar\, via Zoom\nThursday\, December 3\, 2020\n6:30 – 7:30 PM \nFaculty: Scott Hunter\, MD\, MHS\nChild\, Adolescent\, and Addiction Psychiatrist\nLos Angeles County Department of Mental Health \nCME: The PeerPoint Medical Education Institute\, LLC designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ \n  \n \nTobacco use disorder remains a major cause of preventable death and there has been a resurgence in nicotine use among young people as tobacco products have evolved in recent years. Treatments are effective yet underutilized. Practice guidelines recommend that all smokers trying to quit should use pharmacotherapy as a first-line treatment; however\, fewer than one out of every three smokers who try to quit use an FDA-approved smoking cessation medication. Tobacco withdrawal causes clinically significant symptoms of agitation\, anxiety\, restlessness\, and impaired concentration. Medications effectively reduce these withdrawal symptoms and at least double a smoker’s chance of success in quitting. This workshop will review updates in evidence-based treatments for tobacco use disorder\, with particular attention to transitional-age youth. These practices will be applied to several case examples to prepare participants for immediate adoption into their practice. \nLearning Objectives \n\nDemonstrate knowledge of pharmacotherapies for nicotine use disorder treatment\, highlighting the safety and efficacy of each.\nDescribe smoking cessation pharmacotherapy dosing and how to enhance its effectiveness in patients.\nReview the role of counseling in increasing the success of quit attempts.\n\n  \nAccreditation and Designation Statements and Disclosure Report\nThis activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of PeerPoint Medical Education Institute\, LLC and American Academy of Pediatrics – CA2. SUMMARY:Exploring Immunization Policy - (at UCLA)
DESCRIPTION:Paul Torrens Health Forum: Exploring Immunization Policy \nCalifornia’s vaccination laws rank among the strictest nationwide. In 2015\, the State eliminated personal belief exemptions and Governor Newson recently signed legislation further tightening medical exemptions. What are the barriers\, policy\, and legal implications of protecting the public’s health through vaccinations? How do they intersect with personal choice\, and how do they impact providers and employers? A panel including a legislator\, policy expert\, and pediatrician will explore these timely and important issues surrounding one of our most cost-effective “pillars” of public health. \nVisit the event website for more information and registration.\nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/paul-torrens-health-forum-exploring-immunization-policy-registration-93182827345 \nLocation: Tamkin Auditorium\, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center\n757 Westwood Plaza\, Los Angeles\, CA 90095
