Medicine-biological sciences scholarship program | high school student awards

Now in its 19th year, the Medicine-Biological Sciences Scholarship Program provides recognition and a monetary award to exceptional students from the Senior or 12th grade graduating class. Students applying for this program must be planning to enter a college or university to study Medicine or Biological Sciences. This scholarship rotates each year through the different counties that make up Chapter 2 of AAP. The monetary award is made after completion of one semester at a qualified university of college (12 units or more).

Each year, AAP-CA Chapter 2 solicits papers/case studies from pediatric house staff as part of the Committee on Sercie, Education and Mentoring (CSEM) Annual Research Award presentation. AAP-CA2 members of the CSEM review all submitted papers and select up to ten finalists for poster presentations during the Annual Advances in Pediatrics Symposium. Furthermore, the top two are selected as symposium speakers to present.

S. michael marcy memorial lecture | infectious diseases lecture series

In 2014, the medical community lost a brilliant professional and friend. Dr. S. Michael Marcy was a member of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. A Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at both USC and UCLA, Dr. Marcy had the distinction of having served actively in the education and research activities at the 4 major teaching programs in Los Angeles. He served on the California State immunization Committee and had recently completed a term on the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP). He served on the editorial boards of Pediatric Annals, The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, Infectious Diseases in Children, and the Pediatric Infections Forum and had been a peer-reviewer for several major pediatric and infectious disease journals. In his honor, AAP-CA2 established the S. Michael Marcy Memorial Lecture, the first of which took place on April 16, 2015. For this lecture, a world-renowned infectious diseases physician is invited to speak on the latest advances in their field.
