JW Moore Lecture Series – An Introduction to Suicide

Many physicians and physician extenders are uncomfortable bringing up the topic of suicidality and don’t know how to ask about suicide risk. Once they ask the questions, they are also unsure how to proceed. This lecture will be with Danielle Shaw, MD, FAAP, FAPA.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize suicide risk and protective factors
- Ask patients questions to determine whether or not patient is at imminent risk
- Know whom to contact if patients are in immediate danger
- Create a safety plan if crisis intervention is not required
- Recognize that asking about suicides or screening does not prevent 100% of suicides
