Early Career Physicians
The Section on Early Career Physicians (SOECP) was organized in 1999 as a provisional section and gained full section status in 2001. The section is for those members within 10 years of training.
Early career physicians are part of a unique and growing demographic within the AAP, with their own specific needs and interests. Approximately 75% are women, with many interested in working part-time, and many with young families. Early career physicians have placed a priority on being able to integrate work and family life. They are encountering issues related to the ever-changing world of managed care, many of which were not extensively addressed in residency training. They are a highly mobile group, with many changing jobs within the first 2-5 years out of training. Many are seeking mentorship and networking opportunities to support and guide them through the early years of practice.
