What Is The Health & Opioids Use OD2A Collaborative?

AAP-CA2 is participating in a CDC funded grant to address perinatal mental health and enhance community-based health services for parents with substance use disorders. Upon connecting with several counties over the past few months, the chapter discovered some incredible work within many of our communities. Our objectives are as follows:

  • Foster a territory-based approach to addressing fragmentation in the health and human services systems for parents in the perinatal period regarding mental health and substance use.

  • Enhance collaboration between pediatricians, other physician groups, public health partners and other community-based providers to reduce overdose and overdose death and increase self-efficacy in facilitating mental health and substance use treatment for parents during the perinatal period.

  • Demonstrate the viability of state, territory and jurisdiction approaches to promoting parental mental health and reducing overdose and overdose deaths during the perinatal period based on OD2A and other state and jurisdiction data.

The overall goal of the project is to develop and implement a community-based action plan to promote quality improvements in our seven-county region for families related to neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome.

American Academy of Pediatrics California Chapter 2 serves seven of the nine counties in Southern California. We want our counties to partner to achieve two primary goals:

  1. Improve inter-county collaboration and identify best practices to support our collective efforts,
  2. Increase visibility of key stakeholders and initiatives we can leverage across our jurisdictions.

Share Your Resources!

We are asking participants of this collaborative effort to upload any perinatal opioid use resources utilized by your agency to educate parents or health care providers. Although the first collaborative meeting has concluded, additional and informational resources can still be shared through the link below!
